Let's make some clouds!

It's my turn to share a tutorial on the Inky Impressions Inspirational Blog! If you haven't checked out all the fun stuff there, be sure to take a peek! Lots of great ideas!!!

Since I am still getting my groove back I decided to do a remake of an earlier tutorial that I did on Making Clouds. I have so many compliments on my clouds and also still get lots of requests for how I make them so I thought it would be fun to re-visit this easy technique.

For today's tutorial I'm using the super fun Hula Lili

The first thing I do is stamp my image and then mask it. For those new to masking it's super simple, just stamp your image on a post-it note and cut out-voila', a mask.  I save my masks so that if I need to mask the same image in the future, I save a step!

You could also skip this step if you want to just cut out your image and place it on the cloud background.

I'm trying something a bit new today. Normally I use a stencil I've had for years but since I don't think it's available anymore I decided to use some die cuts--these clouds are from Taylored Expressions--but many companies make cloud dies for you to use. Or you could even cut your own out!

I decide where to start the cloud line and place the cloud diecuts there. Once I have them where I want them, then I sponge on a darker blue color--I'm using SU Marina Mist but you can use whatever you have/like.

Next I move the clouds down just a touch and sponge on some lighter blue--I'm using SU Bashful Blue.

I just continue this process until I have the desired clouds I want. One trick I've found is to flip your diecut as you go so that all your clouds aren't identical.

You could also use other colors to make different skies. The possibilities are endless!!

From here I color up my image and finish the card. Hope this gives you an idea on how to add some clouds to your images!!

Great tutorial and super cute card! Fun idea to use the die cuts. I use a hand cut "template" that I cut from acetate (a piece of plastic from some packaging). I like that I can see through it when I'm placing my clouds. :)
