Embellishment challenged

I've determined tonight that I am embellishment challenged. I do fine at coloring images, pairing up papers, even the layouts I'm okay at--with the help of sketches usually--but when it comes to adding the "extras", I just plain stink at it.
Sigh. I wish there was an Embellishing 101 course. LOL!
Any tips that anyone wants to share with me?? How do you know when to use a button? or a flower? or ribbon? without it looking tacky or too busy?

I don't think you can EVER go wrong adding ribbon or flowers. I think the ribbon can be laid flat and make it look like another line on the card and you didn't even make it "cute" with a bow. I do that a lot. I also use knots versus bows ok maybe cuz I stink at bows LOL but it's a different look. I also think flowers in odd numbers are always a good touch. I just add them in a corner and make it look "off centered". Just Do It! LOL.
