Dry Embossing with brass stencils and Crafter's Workshop templates

My design team sister, Marti, recently did an awesome video on using the cuttlebug to emboss using brass stencils and Crafter's Workshop templates on her cuttlebug. You can view it HERE.

It was an "aha" moment for me, I had never tried using the Crafter's Workshop templates!! Opens up a world of possibilities!!

So even though she did an awesome job on this with the cuttlebug, I thought I would show how to do it on the Big Shot, as I know it helps me to see a tutorial with the machine I have--so this is for all you Big Shot and Big Kick users.

I'll start with the brass stencils.

First I took some scrap paper and some cardboard to make a shim so that the stencil would be tight going through the machine. I ended up with one thinner piece of cardboard as a shim. The stencil I'm using is called Cherry Blossoms, I think it's so pretty!!

Next you are going to put the cardboard, then the stencil, the paper and then an embossing mat--I use the one by Spellbinders. Then you sandwich that with your cutting plates and crank through the machine. Once it's through the machine, there you have an embossed cardstock!

From there you can leave it as is for a background, add some Smooch Spritz,  or even swipe it with VersaMark and then dust on chalk or some of the fabulous micas Susana is carrying now! Lots of possibilities! Ohh, the Tsunkinkeo Psst Spritz and Maya Road Mists would be awesome too!

Next we have the Crafter's Workshop templates! Seriously, Marti, this is such a fabulous idea!

You do the exact same thing with these as with the brass stencils. First the cardboard, then the template, paper and then embossing mat. I only wanted a portion of the template to be embossed if you wanted the whole thing, you'd just find a piece of cardboard that was larger and a larger embossing mat.
The template I'm using is Cosmic Swirls.

You sandwich it between your cutting plates, crank it through and again, embossed cardstock for you to have fun with!

Now go order some brass stencils and some Crafter's Workshop Templates and have fun!!
